Returning to School as an Adult? What do you do?

Adults recognize the importance of a college degree .  You may need a bachelor's degree to move ahead in your current job. Or, you need a degree to change career paths.  As an adult returning to school, what steps should you to take to find the right college or university?

  1. Examine what you want to do with a degree.
  2. Ask about the school's accreditation.
  3. Research schools in your area with degree programs for adult students.
  4. Decide if you want an online program or on-campus program.
  5. Research the cost per credit hour and other fees associated with the degree.
  6. Ask about financial aid.
  7. Schedule an appointment with an admissions counselor.


The School for Adult Learning (SAL) at the University of Indianapolis offers a quality-degree program for students 24 years of age or older.  The Accelerated Degree Program offers adult evening classes just one night per week for five weeks. In a typical semester  students will earn nine credits attending class just one night per week on our conveniently located campus.   UIndy was founded in 1902 and was named a top-tier university by US News & World Report.

The SAL program offers support every step along the way.  From the Return to Learning Class which will help you as you begin classes to the final course, you'll get to know your instructors and SAL support staff.   Financial aid is available for this program.
