Returning to school is a big step for adult students. Adults bring a mix of emotions to the process. They are excited, nervous, anxious, and excited again all rolled together. The learning environment has changed since many adults were in school. Here are several tips for returning to school.
The winter term begins January 16, 2012. Start the new year with a new plan.
- Be able to use a computer even if this means taking an introductory class at a local library or learning center. Universities expect students to be somewhat proficient when beginning classes.
- Seek out help at your school such as writing labs, math labs, success centers. If you need help, ask.
- Don't procrastinate on your assignments. Work on assignments over several days, not the day before it is due.
- Refresh yourself on citing information. Plagiarism hasn't changed since you were in school, but the internet has arrived.
- Realize you are adding another priority in your life, and map out a plan to fit this new priority, school, into an already busy life.
